Leavey Awards
For over 30 years, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge and the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation have recognized outstanding teachers for excellence in free enterprise and entrepreneurial education. Over $3,000,000 in grants have been awarded to nearly 500 teachers across the country.
Grant Amounts
Up to twenty $7,500 grants and one $15,000 meritorious award may be granted each year.
Eligibility
The candidate must be a United States citizen or permanent resident employed full-time as an educator at an accredited American elementary or secondary school, college or university. The applicant must conceive and implement an innovative course, program or project which develops, among students, a deeper understanding and appreciation of the American private enterprise system. The nominee's program, course or project must be operating or initiated during the previous academic year.
Submitting a Nomination
The required application form and additional information can be found on the Freedoms Foundation national web site (click here).
The Broward chapter's Vice President of Awards is available to assist in determining if a specific educational endeavor meets the criteria for the Leavey Award. Further, he or she will also be more than happy to work with you in putting together a portfolio describing your project or program. Refer to the Board of Directors page on this site for the Awards Vice President's contact information.
