2007 National Awards Luncheon














For 56 years, Freedoms Foundation has been one of the nation’s premiere organizations for citizenship education.  The Foundation’s historic 85-acre campus allows for a unique residential experience where participants are immersed in history and civics.  Since 1965 over 50.000 students and nearly 10,000 educators have participated in the Foundation's programs.  Since 1949 nearly 55,000 individuals and organizations have been recognized for their accomplishments in the Foundation’s Awards Programs.  

Here Are The Foundation’s Main Program Activities  

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Elementary and Middle School Workshops

  • Designed to highlight the student’s American history curriculum.

  • Features visits to important historical sites (Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Valley Forge, Ellis Island, Washington Crossing) where the character and values of our nation were forged.

  • History is brought to life with special presentations by individuals portraying George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and a colonial soldier.

  • Many students are first generation Americans from inner cities. The program is an opportunity of a lifetime for them.

Spirit of America Program

Three-day conference for high school students that provide participants the opportunity to:

  • Interact with experts on current issues of citizenship.

  • Develop leadership skills and deepen the participants understanding of the value of community service.

  • Explore the foundation of American democracy and the elements of the free enterprise system through thought-provoking lectures and experiential workshops.

  • Tour Philadelphia and Valley Forge National Historic Park.

Free Enterprise  Institute

Since 1997 the Freedoms Foundation has collaborated with the Philadelphia School District in an innovative program designed to:  

  • Teach inner-city at risk youth the complexities and challenges of the Free Enterprise System.

  • Build character and self-esteem in a pre-selected student population.  Removal of the students from their home environment allows the talented staff to work on issues of self-esteem and motivation while empowering the student with an understanding of economics and civics.  

  • Participate in lectures on civics and history, design and build their own corporation as well as participate in leadership and teambuilding exercises.

School of Excellence

For the second year the Foundation presented a School of Excellence in Civics, Government and Community Service funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the best and the brightest of the 5 county Philadelphia area.  This one week program provides the students with the opportunity to:

  • Study American political, historical, voting and citizenship trends that have relevance to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation. 

  • Expand their political knowledge and improve their analytical research, communication and leadership skills.

GRADUATE TEACHER PROGRAMS
Educators participate in fully accredited seminars and workshops studying issues relating history to today’s problems, responsible citizenship and the benefits of the free enterprise system.  Empowering those who teach the youth of America is a critical component of the Foundation’s educational philosophy.  

History Workshops

A unique learning experience that takes teachers to the focal points of the American Revolution, Civil War and sites of our past Presidents.   The workshop will:  

  • Review the events that shaped our nation’s early history.

  • Enhance an understanding raise an awareness and build an appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy as a result of the dedication and sacrifice of those who came before us.

  • Provide an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and thoughts with other colleagues.

Workshops vary from year to year but include:

  • American Revolution: Northern and Southern Campaigns

  • The Civil War: Eastern and Western Campaigns

  • The Revolution in the the Middle States: and

  • The Heritage of Our Past Presidents.

Graduate Seminars

  • Focus on current contemporary issues

  • Prepare the participants to return to their classrooms with a renewed perspective on the issues.

  • Enrich curriculum with first hand knowledge of political theory and practical experience.

  • Seminar activities have included:

  • The American Presidency, the Judiciary and the Congress.

  • The Constitution and Bill of Rights

  • Terrorism, Conflict Resolution and National Security: and

  • The Free Enterprise System.
