Barbara Luther
Inspired by a speaker who spoke of the importance of character development in our nation's youth, Barbara became a proponent. In a short time, a homegrown character education vision was born and initiated in her school. Within four years, the school was recognized as one of nine National Schools of Character in the country. During her tenure, her school was a two-time winner of the US Department of Education White House Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award.

As an individual, Barbara was twice recognized as the Special Education Teacher of the Year and Eunice Shriver's Community of Caring Foundation bestowed upon her its National Leadership Award.

Barbara taught school for 35 years and though she has since retired from teaching continues in service of character development across the country. Working at the national level and also in the state of Maryland, she leads and facilitates educators around the country to develop skills for increased student academic and social achievement. The development of core ethical values, i.e., integrity, respect and responsibility, are emphasized along with service and volunteerism.
For the last eleven years, Barbara has energetically devoted her time and talents to developing character in youth. She works systemically to change school cultures and to provide tools for school communities so that all can succeed. Her diligence, persistence, and passion are devoted to making a difference for all students, parents, community, and all other groups who have a stake in America's schools.
Barbara and her husband traveled the farthest distance (from Virginia to Fort Lauderdale) to receive her George Washington Honor Medal.
