| The convergence of the presidential debates, a history professor who directs the Alan B. Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency, and the chairman of the Marketing Department who also happens to be the president of the Faculty Senate, gave rise to Join It! — FAU's Civic Engagement Week. The volunteer effort would involve students, faculty, sponsoring university organizations, and staff from across the university and its seven campuses. |

An integral part of FAU's Civic Engagement Week featured a series of daily workshops — four to six on most days with each day focusing on one broad topic. The goal was to involve students and the community in the political process, to encourage voter registration, to enhance everyone's understanding of the key issues in the 2008 election, and finally to nurture an appreciation of the broader electoral process. |
